Mission Statement

The project focuses on enhancing data assurance processes to support the migration of data between legacy systems and new platforms, specifically targeting the reconciliation of data from Unity to ViewPoint and related systems. The initiative aims to ensure data integrity, provide confidence in migrated datasets, and enable the deprecation of outdated systems.

Tools Used

Alteryx

SQL Database

Detailed Solution

The project followed a structured and iterative approach to data assurance:

  1. Data Discovery

The team began with a discovery phase, reviewing and profiling data within Unity and ViewPoint systems. This stage highlighted differences in data structures and revealed reconciliation issues between the systems.

  2. Reconciliation Development

Alteryx workflows were designed and built to automate reconciliation checks. These workflows compared data between Unity and ViewPoint, systematically identifying mismatches and confirming consistency where records aligned.

  3. Database Validation

SQL queries were written and executed to access records directly from the underlying databases of Unity and ViewPoint. These queries were used to validate data extracts, verify field values, and support the reconciliation logic within Alteryx.

  4. Mapping Files

Mapping files were created to document the correspondence of fields between Unity and ViewPoint. These files served as a guide for reconciliation efforts and were continuously updated to reflect stakeholder feedback and any changes identified during assurance activities.

  5. Stakeholder Engagement

Regular workshops and meetings were held with stakeholders to review progress and discuss issues. Feedback from these sessions was used to refine both the mapping files and the assurance workflows.

Impact

  1. Increased confidence in migration outcomes

  2. Reduced business risk

  3. Improved data integrity

  4. Increased efficiency with automated workflows
